If you have time to look here, then you most certainly have enough time to make yourself look more moe! Your eyes should be wider! Tilt your head! Squeeze your hands! Yes, yes, yes!

background Renge was born into a wealthy, prestigious family. Her father allowed her to indulge in anything she wanted, and that was namely in video games, anime, and cosplaying. She had many favorite anime, and enjoyed cosplaying, but ultimately, there was one video game she loved the best. This was a high school visual-novel video game, which she played obsessively to breaking limits. Her most favorite character was the “megane” character, or the glasses character. She constantly chose his route, and even memorized the lines. Because of her rich background, she was allowed to buy thousands of plushies of him, as well as posters, and other obsessive merchandise. One day, to her surprise, she saw a picture of a boy who looked like the character (Kyouya) and immediately took their private plane to Japan to see him. This was Ouran High School, and she shyly entered the host club, who attempted to cater her needs. However, being an expert on anime and video games, she decided that none of them could even measure up to Kyouya. She specifically pronounced Tamaki, the king of the host club, as a fake prince. She clung to Kyouya and declared that they were fiancées. He took it coolly, and it wasn’t until a scene later that he explained that he had never met her before. But deciding that the host club needed a revamp, considering that it contained Kyouya, after all, Renge directed the club to act their overexaggerated parts after appointing herself as manager. The twins were angsty, the loli character had an evil side, the wild character was obedient, the commoner character was bullied, and the prince was secretly even angstier. Kyouya, in her opinion, was perfect. She had expert filmmakers come to make the video. Things went too far when Haruhi lived up to her role too much. Two bullies that Renge had hired had gone out of control, though Tamaki came to the rescue. To her ultimate devastation, however, Kyouya destroyed the camera lens with one hand. When she questioned him, hurt, he told her that the host club could not be caught on tape as being violent. His cold words and even colder demeanor shattered her dreams, and Renge could not connect the images of the perfect boy on her video game to this Kyouya. Though she fell on her knees and cried, Haruhi comforted her, and told her that people were actually more interesting and dimensional than mere video game characters. Renge accepted those words to her heart. The video also was released at the end with the scene cut out. Renge still remained at her self-appointed manager position, bringing in highly profitable fangirls, and lived in Japan. She then attended classes with Haruhi, still oblivious that Haruhi was actually a girl. Kyouya, enjoying the profits, allowed her to stay, and their communication held no bitterness, as Renge and Kyouya shared joy in making the host club a thriving place (though for extremely different reasons.) Tamaki, the offended fake prince, only allowed her to stay because she might make Haruhi more girl-y. However, Renge only developed a crush on her instead. Renge helps out the club afterwards, being extremely sharp in terms of moe. Her expertise about the host club is usually spot-on, and she makes herself extremely involved with them. At random locations, she has built a rising platform with a high-power motor where she will be lifted up while laughing loudly. At those moments, she will offer a word of advice before lowering again. Her insightfulness surprises most of the members of the group, as her advice comes from many areas. For example, she categorizes the host club easily, and even sees Hunny as a loli character trying to redeem himself after his position had been challenged while the others still saws him as merely cute. Ironically, even her previous roles in the video prove somewhat true to an extent. She also is capable of explaining the match between Hunny and his little brother and even makes use of a movie screen, once again showing her frightening knowledge into the host club world. She also actively partakes in the club experience, including helping Nekozawa, president of the Black Magic Club, face his fear of sunlight in a diabolic way. Her teaching methods included shining a flashlight at his face and forcing him to act as if a teddy bear with a wig was his little sister. However, when she grew angry, her features became like a Medusa. Her angriness usually sends the entire club into a frenzied panic. However, she also supports the club from the outside. She created the Moe Moe Ouran Journal, which explains the moe of Ouran. She also publishes doujinshis and advertises frequently for the club. Much later in the series, she sees Kasanoda and Haruhi sitting together, as the former attempts to confess his love. Actively, she dials number after number for her legion of fangirls who crowd in, creating good business. Not only that, they all sympathsized with Kasanoda after he got obliviously rejected, with Renge leading the squeeing. Her life is not purely the host club, however. She partakes in class activities, and encourages involvement from her other classmates, as seen by the Halloween event. She also still indulges in her cosplay fun, including a bikini-tattoo combination for the artificial beach, and dressing up dramatically as the sequel of the previously-mentioned visual-novel video game for Halloween. |
personality Renge is an otaku. But she also has a thriving and pushy social nature, suggesting exciting and ridiculous events, teaching characters even more ridiculous skills, and having an active life. She loves anime, cosplay, and video games, and indulges in them often. Because of her money, she will go to ridiculous extents to them, and buys inside information about spoilers for herself as quickly as she can get them. Not only that, but she also engages in many areas of fangirlisms, like the forbidden love in ancient Japan. Her first appearance on the show was in a dark room, only lit by the television with the video game, surrounded by plushies. This frightening otaku room belied her impulsiveness and excitement that was hidden within. Initially her social skills were struggling, categorizing the host club members into niches from her games. However, after Haruhi’s words, Renge understands them as people. Being a fangirl, she manages to do both tasks without conflicting upon one another, easily categorizing them but still treating them as people and helping out with their various concerns. She does not take no for an answer, and would continue to push her point oblivious to any concerns surrounding her. The fangirl aspect of her remains dominant. Her favorite phrase of being capable of eating “twenty bowls of rice for this!” and such indicates that she grows squeeful at the ideas presented by the host club as well. She is an expert of creating relationship aspects that are appealing, and also loves secret love-life yaoi as well. She also has many companions, and not only those from the host club. She can control hordes of fangirls under her messages. Evident by her cell phone calls that brought an entirely full room, her influence is still widely respected by the school. The sharpness in her personality, however, is not lost within the fangirlness. For example, she has a good business sense, selling the Moe Moe Ouran Journal and doujinshis, indicating that she is capable of organization on a massive level and ambitious enough to continue with these editions on a regular basis. Even the president of the newspaper club was envious of her sales. She also works as a performer in a hostclubesque show for children, and is a good performer. Though she is impulsive, she can still clearly see, on a fangirl dimension, what deep thoughts and feelings the characters might have—and them, as people, might have. Being a kind heart, she wishes to help people as well. After meeting the host club, she still did not give up her video game habits or her cosplaying deeds, showing a strong will to incorporate them into her life. Not only that, she is also courageous, moving to another country without much preparation at all. This also shows that she is an absolute romantic, not only about fangirls, but about her own love life and upon meeting her perfect love. Though she still indulges herself with Haruhi and the other host club members, her role slowly shifted until she became dominantly one who helps other people find their true love rather than loudly seeking her own. |
